The world of web design and the habits of consumers in using the  internet, are both areas that have developed at an extremely fast pace over the last 5 years.

The  ACMA (Australian Communications and Media Authority) Communications Report 2012-13 showed an increase of 33% in Australians accessing the internet from their mobile phone in the 12 months between June 2012 – June 2013.  The same report showed that mobile internet access has grown by 510 per cent since June 2008, when smartphones first started appearing.  However:

Despite the growth in take-up of smartphones and activities performed online via mobile phones by Australian consumers, only 18 per cent of online SMEs actually had a mobile-optimised website at May 2013

What does this mean for you?  Well, if your website has not been designed for responsive display on smartphones or tablets, you could be missing out on an increasing amount of web traffic.
